Daddy Daughter Friday: Bathtime

When Molly was about 5 to 6 months old and transitioned to the big tub we deemed bath time Daddy's activity. It gave him a chance to do something with her that was their time. Occasionally I have to fill in but most nights Molly and Dad enjoy splashing and washing away in the bath before bed. Its so fun to hear the giggles and laughs that come from the bath room while I prepare her bottle and pjs.

this time last year

I got to thinking how much has changed from this time last year. Our life is completely different and something I never, ever expected.

This time last year I was 33 weeks pregnant and starting to get really exited about meeting our little girl. Check out my bumpdate from the same time last year.

I can't believe that was a year ago. It feels like just yesterday I was standing in my bathroom taking that bump pic. The concept of time is the strangest thing. So much has happened in such a short span. It sure has been a wild ride!

I can't even begin to fathom what life will be like this time next year with an almost 2 year old! For now I am going to treasure the moments of today.

Molly: 10 Months

Double digits have arrived. 10 Months!

I never knew how much a tiny little tot could really wear me out. With each day she gets a little braver, a little more curious and a little more rambunctious. At the end of the day when I climb into bed I am usually fast asleep before my head hits the pillow.

This past month we have done a lot of development and we are hitting some big milestones and getting really close to others. Its so exciting to watch her figure things out and connect the dots.

Mom and Dad went on their first trip away and Molly stayed with her grandparents. She did great! She also started Mother's Day Out two days a week and its going well. She loves playing with other babies.

Her latest thing is pointing her finger at something and she loves when you point your finger back at her. She also gets a kick out of handing you things. If you ask for something she will give it to you. And she is great at sharing at meal times too - lean down for a bite and she will put some of her food in your mouth. So cute.

She has fully mastered giving kisses, waving bye or hi and clapping. She will give herself kisses in the mirror, she will kiss her dolls (video) and she will kiss anybody who asks for one. She also sneaked up on a little boy in Kindermusik this morning and planted a big one on him. Already boy crazy!

She has also learned to shake her head no. She will connect it with actually meaning no sometimes (like when she is done at meal times) and other times she just laughs and shakes her head.

One of her favorite new activities is climbing onto her chair and then leaping off onto her huge stuffed lamb. She will do it over and over again and thinks its so funny.

And the most recent and most exciting development is her attempt at walking! She has taken up to 5 steps before falling down. I can't believe my lil baby is almost walking.

The months continue to get more and more exciting and we are having such a blast being parents. We are excited for some upcoming holidays, her big first birthday (the planning is in full force) and other activities and love sharing our big moments with her.

Happy 10 Months beautiful girl. We love you always!

Survived my first 10K

Whew, what a whirlwind of a weekend. We have a sick baby so there hasn't been much sleep going on. She prefers to sleep in our bed when she is sick so I am left to occupy the smallest corner of the bed while she snores away. Its been fun.

In other weekend news, I tackled a first this weekend. My first 10K! You might remember me talking about a 10K being my next goal back in May. While my training fell by the wayside with everything else going on (read: I didn't train AT ALL) I still knew I could do it. I ran a less than a handful of times since the 5K I ran in April so I was a little nervous going into this 10K. Especially since I am not a natural long distance runner - I struggle with it. But I survived!

The Tour Des Fleurs 10k/20k is one of Dallas' most popular races of the season. The race benefits our beautiful one of a kind Dallas Arboretum and takes place within the arboretum and around White Rock Lake. I am so fortunate to live in this beautiful area of Dallas and I wanted to do something that benefits a cause I love for my first 10k.

The race started at 8am in the morning so I rolled out of bed around 7am, laced up my shoes, stuffed a banana, some coffee and some water down my throat and headed out the door. The weather was absolutely perfect (mid 60s and partly cloudy) and I got to stroll through the beautiful arboretum gardens as my warm up. I hit the large pack of runners just about 5 minutes before the race started - I stretched, set my watch timer and got ready. Bang! Gun goes off, lets do this!

The first couple miles my adrenaline was running full force, the course was flat and I was enjoying the weather and the scenery. I was off to a good start and feeling pretty energized.

About halfway through the hills started. The first hill was HUGE. I was just starting to get a little tired and I knew this hill was going to be the death of me. So what did I do, I got it over with as fast as possible and sprinted up the hill. Not going to lie, felt kind of like a badass sprinting past other runners as I conquered the massive hill. Then I hit the top and slowed down and my body was not happy with me. I slowed WAY down to recover and then carried on.

The middle of race was all hills - a combo of small and big. I was not prepared for this and it hurt. A lot. Then we came around the corner and started the loop back to the start/finish line. I hit the water stop just at the right time and refueled so I could make it to the end of the race.

The people that had gathered along the last mile were cheering and it gave me the push I needed. I saw the finish line and put everything I had into the last half mile. And done!

Once I crossed the finish line I had the biggest grin on my face. I did it. I ran my first 10k and I didn't kill over. Then I saw my sweet Molly's face and my race was complete.

I enjoyed a post race beer, some breakfast tacos and walked around the arboretum to cool down. It doesn't hurt to have a world renowned exhibit by Chihuly to check out while you come off your race high.

So how did I do? Well I did better than I thought I would! I finished in 1:13:57. Not something I would brag about but far better than I thought I would fare with absolutely zero training. It definitely let me know what my body is capable of and I am excited to actually do some training and sign up for another one.

One down, more to come.

Our Windy City Vacation

Chicago. My absolute favorite city. I used to dream about living in a cute little townhouse in the city, walking distance from the advertising agency where I worked and just an L stop away from all the adventures of the city. Life didn't quite turn out that way so I will take a vacation here and there to get my fill.

Untitled

This time last year we were jetting off on our babymoon, crazy how much difference a year makes.  This year Chicago marked our first trip away from Molly. And while we spent countless hours looking at photos and videos of her while we were gone we did manage to have lots of fun. And take lots of naps.

I decided to document our trip to Chicago with photos rather than words...

And oh yea, this happened. Within 2 hours of getting there. No baby? Nap please!

While we were away Molly was in good hands with her g'parents. She takes it with cream - 2 sugars.

We had so much fun. We can't wait to go back! Next time with Molly in tow.

Lately

Life has been hectic and crazy -- but in a good way. And the easiest way for me to share, because of the craziness, is a nice and organized list of what has been going on lately.

1. Vacation- we took our first trip away from Molly and escaped to Chicago (my favorite city) to stay with family and friends. It was a fantastic trip. We slept in, we napped, we stayed out late. It was exactly what we needed and more. A full Chicago post is coming.

2. Rise and Shine!- since we returned home from our vacation Molly has been fighting naps and waking up SUPER early. Her normal nighttime sleep is 8 to 8. For 2 weeks she has been getting up earlier and earlier. 6:30am this morning. What! Not okay. I am struggling to deal with how to adjust her schedule accordingly. Its stressing me out.

3. Fall Weather- this past weekend some cooler temperatures finally arrived in Dallas. A, ghasp, "cold" front! Highs in the mid 80's which mean mornings in the high 60's. Bliss. We spent the extra early morning hours (see above) outside enjoying the beautiful weather.

4. 1st Birthday- Molly is 10 months old today! Unreal. I can't even begin to understand how this has happened. To cope, I am starting to plan her first birthday party. Fortunately one of my very good friends is extremely gifted in the DIY department so I am going to abuse our relationship for my benefit. : ) We had our first planning meeting last night. Its going to be EPIC!

5. Packed Lunches- last night I packed my first lunch for Molly. I almost cried (not really). Today was her first day at Mother's Day Out. She will be going 2 days a week from 9:30am - 2:30pm. And when I dropped her off I didn't cry! Wohoo.

6. First 10k- my first ever 10k is this Saturday -- probably should have trained. Luckily the weather is going to be really nice so theres that. I am thinking it will be more of a wog than a run. Whoops!

Things have been pretty interesting, entertaining, busy and fun around here lately. And the next few months (birthday party, holidays) are going to be even crazier. Hang on tight!!

Oh, and happy 10 Months beautiful girl. It has been an amazing ride.

Life.

Life has taken over the past few weeks and I have yet to get my blogging legs back. Instead I have been basking in time with my family while my husband has been on break from school. Date nights, travel, long saturday afternoons and sunday naps.

New and exciting posts to come. Stay tuned. I feel my feet underneath me again.
