Pseudo Single Lifestyle Problems

Part of being "pseudo single" is having to learn how to battle everyday issues on your own.

#1 Issue: The Dress Zipper

I spent a solid 5 to 7 minutes this morning bending my arms, arching my back, pulling my dress to try and get the zipper all the way up my back. Whew. What a workout.

A boyfriend, or roomate (besides a dog) comes in really handy at times like this.

On a brighter note, like my new dress from Target??

Secret Lunch Location

One of the great parts about working downtown is being able to walk to lunch on beautiful sunny days.

Today, a couple co-workers of mine, Tara and Holly, took off for Subway a couple blocks away. On our way back Tara told us of a new secret lunch spot she found to stop and eat. So, we did.

seating

We set up shop with our subway sandwiches and bags of cheetos under what we assume is an awning created in the 60's. As I was eating I could picture all of the men in their brown suits standing about smoking cigarrettes with their secretaries.

sunbathing

I got the sun seat out of the group, so I used this time to let the rays hit my pale skin and get the summer glow going.

So nice to be able to step out of the office on those sunny days.

Red Meat is Back

Every year I give up a couple things for lent (read about it here).

One of them was red meat. The lack of red meat actually made me feel better over the past 40 days but I just can't shake the intense need for a cheeseburger. Burgers are one of my absolute favorite foods and I have missed it SO much.

A couple days ago I had my first burger in what seems like FOREVER! (insert Sandlot pronunciation here)

It was absolutely delicious.

However, I felt horrible the rest of the day and into the next day.

New rule, only "quality" red meat for me. Translation= steaks.

Spontaneous Spring Project

Since Saturday was such a beautiful spring day I decided it was time to plant flowers. While my Mom and I were out on one of our Saturday shopping days I decided I wanted to purchase some planting items.

For the first time, we made a trip to a long established local feed and plant store here in the city called Horns Seed Co.

My mom and I picked out some beautiful petunias to go in the new pot I purchased for my front porch. I got the pot at Horns also, for only $11!

IMG00148

I also purchased several bags of seeds in a variety of flowers. I am planning to plant these in the front flowerbed that lines my side of the house and the joint flowerbed in front of my porch. I was hoping to get these planted before the rain came but I didn't quite make it.

When we returned home my mom helped me clean off my front porch and get it Spring and Summer ready. Drinks on the porch!

We also planted the petunia's in my new pot and placed them on the porch for added color.

So now my house is ready for Spring. Come by soon for icepicks and snacks on the front porch.

A Little Addy gem

I came across this photo last week on Facebook, it was taken by OKBiz magazine. It is absolutely priceless.

Here is the real scenario: I was beyond excited that we won Best Interactive for the project BucktheNorm.com (which I was project manager for). So excited that I didn't even realize we had just won Best In Show!! Obviously Liz and Kathleen heard the announcement.

I LOVE it! This picture captures the evening's magic perfectly.

Sawhorse Desk

I have long been drooling over sawhorse style desks. I think they are the perfect combination of work meets play, clean yet stylish, minimalist yet functional. I also think they make an office more airy and less heavy than a standard style desk.

A few weeks ago Chase notified me that we will be needing to get a new desk when we move in together because his legs don't comfortably fit under my current desk. Perfect! Sounds like a great excuse to find my sawhorse desk.

I first laid eyes on this style desk when Chase and I were daydreaming through the local Ethan Allen store. Way, way out of our price range, but so beautiful.

I saw yet another sawhorse style desk at West Elm on our girls trip to Dallas. I like the simplicity of this one but I don't really dig the glass top.

desk1

As I was perusing around the internet I found this one from Pier1. Its a little more clunky but it gives you some storage.

desk3

This one, from JCPenny, I like because it gives you the storage but also has a very homey feel as opposed to a more workspace feel.

desk4

I also came upon some shelf style sawhorse legs at Ikea that I definitely think we could use for a diy project to get exactly what we want.

What do you think? Too simple? Lack of storage too much of a problem?

5K on a Windy Day

This past Sunday was the 27th Annual RedBud Classic in Nichols Hills. Chase and I started this tradition with our first entry last year. We carried it on this year as we trained over the past few weeks and ran our hearts out Sunday.

rb2009

I improved my time by almost 4 minutes from last year! Wohoo! This is quite an accomplishment considering the 30 degree temperature change and the 40 mile an hour north wind gusts in my face.

Chase also had a great run. He finished 10 minutes faster than last year! (last year he was running with me, or walking, I slowed him down quite a bit.)

Despite the cold and gusty winds we had a really fun time and are ready for next year. We are thinking 10K. We even had a celebratory beer at the finish line.

Bags, Bags and more Bags

A new addiction I have is bags. Like purses, but bags. I think they are perfect for summer activities because you can throw them across your body as a great accessory AND they don't annoy you on your shoulder like purses.

Today I got a new bag from Edmond Summit. Its a brand called KAVU. Its a very durable, cross body outdoorsy style bag. I LOVE it! I can't wait to wear it to the Paseo arts festival. (the first thing that popped in my mind as soon as I saw it)

This is a plain green one but the bag I got is a very cute flirty floral print.

I can't wait to wear it. Oh how I LOVE bags.

Congrats!

Sorry I have been away so long but my days and nights have been filled with fun extracurricular activities as of late.

One of which was my friend Kathleen's wedding. It was a beautiful at home intimate ceremony with just the right people in attendance. It was then followed by a crazy good times reception. Just right for the happy couple and their couple style.

I took a lot of things away from that wedding, to the simple but poetic unreligious vows they used to the nice little touches throughout their home to transform it to wedding bliss. Thanks guys, I'm jotting it down in my notes.

Here are a few of my favorite things from the wedding:
